GMG Radio announce Alesha Dixon as first star in Blackpool’s Big Switch-On line up
Real Radio and Smooth Radio, in association with visitBlackpool, announce today that top British singer, songwriter and model Alesha Dixon will perform as part of the “Big Switch-On Weekend” of events to launch this year’s Blackpool Illuminations.
This news comes as excitement builds towards the revelation of who will switch on the world famous lights - which will happen on Real Radio on Monday morning (26 July 2010) just after 8am. Listeners can tune in to hear the identity of the superstar who will switch on the 2010 Blackpool Illuminations on Friday 3rd September.
The “Big Switch-On Weekend,” on Friday 3rd, Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th September, sees one of the nation’s favourite commercial radio station networks broadcast a series of live shows introduced by some of their best-loved presenters, as Blackpool plays host to an exciting programme of special events.
Andy Carter, Managing Director of GMG Radio north west said; “The team here at Real Radio have secured a true international superstar for The Big Switch On. The artist will join us on stage to be part of one of the UK’s largest annual events and the identity will be revealed to all on Monday morning at 8am; exclusively on The Real Breakfast Show.”

Alesha began her career with girl group Mis-Teeq and has had a string of solo hits. She’s also known to millions for her role as both a contestant and judge on Strictly Come Dancing, and was a judge on the show when it was transmitted live from Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom in 2009.
The live broadcast of the Switch-On show on Friday September 3rd, will go out nationwide across the Real Radio and Smooth Radio networks from 8.00pm with a 9.00pm Switch-On.
